Concentration and Coordination...

At Nonny's house there is a plastic ring-pyramid. Lorelei played with that quite a lot during our vacation. It has big plastic rings and a pole that kind of sloped. It is actually quite easy to put the rings back on once you have taken them off. Lorelei, of course, did not realize that you can actually put the rings back on at first. She loved taking them off, sticking them in her mouth and then tossing them aside just to move on to the next color. Well, during the vacation she came to realize that it is not only fun to take them off, but that it is also fun to put them back on. So, she started doing that. Of course th bigges one was the easiest but she got to a point where she would be taking them off one at a time and then putting them back on one at a time.

Well, we also have a pyramid at home, made out of wood, with smaller rings and smaller holes. Altogether I would say quite a bit harder to put the rings on that thing, but, she did it, just like she had done on our vacation in Texas.... And she loves it! Just look at the concentration on that face!

Winter Wonderland (continued)

When we returned to the Netherlands from our vacation we kind of returned to the same winter wonderland we left. As a matter of fact it was even better because there was enough ice to ice-skate one! Another thing you can do is sledding with your big brother, as you can see here! Last sunday we went to a friends' birthday party in an area with lots of water, including this small lake. I had just bought a sled the day before and of course we had to try it. Well, isn't this just adorable. Tobias was so sweet to his little sister, and Lorelei was having so much fun in the snow!

Climbing (Continued)

Lorelei started climbing on our vacation in France, but she definitely continued at Nonny's house. The stairs in their house are straight, wide and soft so I guess they make for a nice climb. She just would not stop. Ad a matter of fact, she would climb up and down these stairs. It took some time before she realized it is not a good idea to climb down head-first, but as soon as she realized she had to turn around she was going up and down, up and down....

The past week has been hard due to jetlag, but one of the things I did during the hours she was awake and I tried to exhaust her in the middle of the night was climbing the couch. She could not do it at first, but today (during normal daytime hours...) she did it for the first time without a helping hand (well, I put a pillow on the floor for her to step on, but she did not need that final puch anymore.). The picture looks quite silly, I agree, but I can assure you that she climbed onto that couch all by herself!

In The Spa

Lorelei is not nearly as much of a fish as Tobias was, but she does like bathing and apparently she likes going to baby-swimming too... Granted that Tobias' real interest in swimming didn't start until after our summer vacation in Italy when he was a year and a half old, so maybe I am jumping to conclusions, but even when Tobias was about Lorelei's age he loved going in the Spa. Lorelei mainly cried, especially when we just put her in there. Eventually I managed to make her laugh and somewhat happy, but I do think that her dip was more enjoyable to me than it was to her...

Also, the weather was not as nice as we are used to when we visit Texas. We only got to use the Spa this time, not the pool, and we only got to use it a few times, not everyday :-). Lorelei came into the Spa just this one time, which is probably a good thing because even I thought it was kind of chilly out there... Tobias and I did spend quite some time in there though which was nice, especially when the sun was out.

Hopefully next time we're there we can spend some time in the pool as well...

2 Milestones: Standing Up + Pointing

I have posted a message in which I write that Lorelei is very strong and can pull herself up on virtually anything. So, she has been standing with support for quite a while. At and since that time she has been standing up without support for seconds at a time, mainly caused by lack of attention or surplus of excitement on her part. She would accidentally stand for two seconds, realize it and then sit down again. Now, she can stand by herself, without support, for quite a while. Sometimes she is even holding something, or drinking. She really started doing that during our vacation in Texas and this picture was taken in Nonny and Granddaddy's living room. Quite the achievement, right? For a minute we thought she'd even start walking, but that is still a bit to difficult without support, although she will walk along the wall, table, couch and stuff like that.

Also, just before our vacation, she started pointing at stuff. She has been doing that a lot during our vacation too. She would point at lights, objects, food, etc. But most of all she pointed at a large picture hanging on the wall of Tobias and her saying "Tata". We think she was pointing and trying to say "Tobias". Maybe not, but it was cute anyway... Here you can see her pointing at a picture in a book...

Santa Baby

This was quite the "one time opportunity" made possible by Aunt Shelli. She had bought this cute dress.... I mean, how many times is she going to wear this and how many times are we going to be able to buy something this cute and Christmas-sy ever again? :-). I did feel a little sorry for her though, with those furry cuffs on her sleeves and all that, but hey, tough it out girl, it's just one day!

Of course, this picture (along with many others) was taken shortly after we put it on her... It did not last that long before dust, food, drink and other foreign substances got caught in the fur :-). I love my santa baby :-)

PS: It took a while for me to post something... we are still suffering from severe jetlag. It is not us, it is not Tobias, it is my Santa Baby... We have been back here for over a week now but she is still waking up every night and she is not able to go back to sleep for anywhere between two and four hours! Initially we would get her up and make her crawl and exhaust herself, but last night we just let her cry herself back to sleep... It took quite a while but she did it, in less time than any of the previous nights... I hope it'll be over soon... for her sake and mine :-)
